Am 26. November 1938 explodierten während eines Gastspiels der jüdisch-bukowinischen Sängerin Sidy Thal und ihres Ensembles am Temeswarer Theater zwei Handgranaten im Saal. Bei dem antisemitischen Anschlag der  rechtsextremen nationalistischen Eisernen Garde wurden vier Menschen getötet und 70 verletzt.

Das Ereignis, das in der Stadt Temeswar/Timișoara, der Europäischen  Kulturhauptstadt 2023, kaum bekannt ist, erforschten der Dramatiker Thomas Perle und der Regisseur Clemens Bechtel mit Hilfe von Maria Mădălina Irimia vom Wilhelm-Filderman-Zentrum für das Studium der Geschichte der rumänischen Juden und kreierten daraus ein dokumentarisches Theaterstück.

Was ist wahr? Was geschah wirklich? Stück und Inszenierung sind ein Versuch der Rekonstruktion des Anschlags und der damaligen Zeit, in der Antisemitismus und Faschismus zum Alltag in einer multikulturellen Gesellschaft wurden und die zum Schrecken des Zweiten Weltkriegs und der Shoa führten.

Sidy Thal ist die erste Kooperation zwischen dem Deutschen Staatstheater Temeswar und dem Jüdischen Staatstheater Bukarest. Das mehrsprachige Werk wird in deutscher, rumänischer und  jiddischer Sprache aufgeführt.

La 26 noiembrie 1938, două grenade de mână au explodat în sala de spectacole a Teatrului din Timișoara  în timpul unei reprezentații a cântăreței evreico-bucovinene Sidy Thal și a ansamblului său. Patru persoane au fost ucise și 70 rănite în atacul antisemit comis de Garda de Fier, un grup naționalist de extremă dreapta.

Evenimentul, puțin cunoscut în orașul Timișoara, Capitală Europeană a Culturii 2023, a fost cercetat de dramaturgul Thomas Perle și regizorul Clemens Bechtel cu ajutorul Mariei Mădălina Irimia de la Centrul pentru Studiul Istoriei Evreilor din Romania „Wilhelm Filderman” din România și au creat o piesă documentară pornind de la acest incident.

Ce este adevărat? Ce s-a întâmplat cu adevărat? Piesa de teatru și producția sunt o încercare de a reconstitui atacul și perioada în care antisemitismul și fascismul au devenit parte din viața de zi cu zi într-o societate multiculturală, ceea ce a dus la oroarea celui de-al Doilea Război Mondial și la Shoah.

Sidy Thal este prima cooperare între Teatrul German de Stat Timișoara și Teatrul Evreiesc de Stat București. Piesa multilingvă va fi jucată în germană, română și idiș.

On November 26, 1938, two hand grenades exploded in the hall during a guest performance of the Jewish-Bukovinian singer Sidy Thal and her ensemble at the Theater in Timisoara. Four people were killed and 70 injured in the anti-Semitic attack by the far-right nationalist Iron Guard.

The event, little known in the city of Timișoara, the European Capital of Culture 2023, was researched by playwright Thomas Perle and director Clemens Bechtel with the help of Maria Mădălina Irimia of the “Wilhelm Filderman” Center for the Study of the History of Romanian Jews and created a documentary play from it.

What is true? What really happened? The play and the production are an attempt to reconstruct the attack and the time when anti-Semitism and fascism became part of everyday life in a multicultural society, leading to the horror of the Second World War and the Shoah.

Sidy Thal is the first cooperation between the German State Theater Timisoara and the Jewish State Theater Bucharest. The multilingual work will be performed in Yiddish, German and Romanian.
